General Orthopedics
General Orthopedics concerns the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system — the network of bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves that gives the body its shape and allows us to move. Joints (where two or more bones meet), ligaments (which connect bones), and tendons (which connect muscle and bone) are particularly prone to traumatic injury, congenital or acquired disease, even damage from the natural aging process.
Common orthopedic conditions include arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, bone fractures, sprains and strains, knee and shoulder problems, tendon and ligament tears, osteoporosis and sports injuries. Patients with orthopedic problems span the age spectrum, from infants to the elderly.
Dr. Thomas Nordstrom and Dr. David Abrutyn treat patients of all ages with all types of orthopedic injury at The Center for Orthopedic Care, utilizing such state-of-the-art technologies as nerve conduction study, Dexa scan, and platelet rich plasma (PRP), an especially advanced therapy used to treat soft-tissue injuries. Adults as well as growing children and adolescents with acute injury benefit from their care and expertise that help patients to have the best possible outcomes.
